The ergonomic aspect of Aston
Movement Coaching is designed to help clients examine environmental factors
(seating conditions, shoes, etc.) that may be compromising body structure and usage. Once
these factors have been identified, the practitioner can suggest ways of either changing
body usage to improve the situation and/or modifying objects to make them more
"body-friendly". Where possible, the environment should be adapted to the human
body, not the other way round.
The Aston-LineŽ offers ready-made products
to modify a wide variety of seating. The problem with
most seating structures is that their shape encourages slouching and imposes compression
in the body. Generally, a concave seat and seatback is the shape we find when we sit in
offices, restaurants, theatres, cars and airplanes. The concave seat presents and problem
because it encourages the body to 'slouch' into a position which conforms to the shape of
the seat. This position can cause compression in the spine, ribs and hips. When those
areas get compressed, unnecessary tension is stored in the tissue.
In the office, or at the computer, the Wedge
provides support for the back muscles by keeping the spine more directly aligned. The
result is less fatigue.
The Wedge adjusts the angle of sitting so
that the body can be in a more natural, comfortable and effortless alignment. Unnecessary
stress to the neck, shoulders, back and arms is relieved when the spine is in proper
alignment.
The Wedge, covered by sturdy canvas, is
ideal for the car, office, home, theatre, sports arena, restaurant and airplane.
Generally, the thick end of the seat cushion is placed at
the back of the seat, but it can be reversed. This reversed arrangement is good for
sitting back at the table, or as a passenger in a car. |
In the car, the driver generally places the thick end of the Wedge
at the back of the seat. The seat back is usually most comfortable with the thicker end at
the top. It can be inverted for more lumbar support. The knee pillow allows better
movement with less tension. The passenger may prefer to lean back, with the thick cut at
the front of the seat. In this case, the Wedge is more comfortable if the
feet are brought closer to the seat to raise the knee above the pelvis. |
